When I was about five or six, my mom was in nursing school at Lehman College in the Bronx. Not too far from there is the legendary Arthur Avenue, a little enclave of Italian culture. It’s a place filled with butcher shops displaying lambs in the window, stores lined with rows of soppressata, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere of authentic Italian tradition. Among all these wonderful spots is Dominick’s, a classic Italian restaurant that became a family favorite.

We started visiting Dominick’s regularly, and it quickly became a beloved tradition. The rich aroma of their red sauce is something you can never forget. One of the dishes we always cherished was their pork chop with cherry pepper sauce. That’s the inspiration behind the Arthur Ave sandwich: a juicy pork chop with cherry pepper and white wine sauce, topped with broccoli rabe and melted provolone, all tucked into a ciabatta roll.

And of course, we make sure that bread soaks up every bit of that delicious sauce, so each bite is a nostalgic taste of Arthur Avenue.
